Garff Commissioners met last night and discussed various issues in the parish including the new raft, the Northern Civic Amenity Site public meeting and the potential for a paved footpath across the beach.
The commissioners discussed the potential for a paved path to run across the beach to allow residents and visitors with mobility issues to access the beach.
The clerk told the board that it had been looked into, and some options had been found which could work.

However, after speaking to a specialist, he said it would require ‘major engineering works’ into the beach to be able to put in foundations and it could become expensive.
And due to the nature of Laxey Beach, the only feasible option would be to create a mini pier or a ‘suspended walkway’.
The idea was rejected by the board.
Also on the agenda was an update from Chair Stan Ryzak, who sits on the Northern Civic Amenity Site joint committee.
He said the committee has organised a public meeting at Ramsey Grammar School where a presentation will be made, and representatives will be available to answer questions from residents.
Mr Ryzak said that until a solution can be made which the board and Bride Commissioners agree to, the site will have to be run by the Department of Infrastructure.
He said there is enough left in the reserves to cover the payment Bride was making until next year – the committee has given notice to end its running of the site in April next year.
The clerk confirmed that there would be options for residents in Maughold, who pay into the NCAS through rates, if the site closed.
Raft For Summer
Another item on the agenda was the purchase and delivery of a new raft for the bay.
It was bought for £2,800 and the board was told it would be delivered this month – ready for the summer season.
Concerns were raised by Commissioner Stewart Clague that the raft might not be suitable for the bay, but it was confirmed by the clerk it is and is similar to ones in use in both Ramsey and Port Erin.
And following Mark Cavendish’s record breaking 35th Tour de France stage win yesterday; the commissioners have agreed to send a letter of congratulations to him and his family.
Garff Commissioners will next meet on August 7.
