Sir John and Lady Lorimer have hosted a reception to celebrate 200 years of the RNLI.
Founded by Sir William Hillary, the RNLI can trace its roots back to the island and our dangerous coastline.
Sir John noted that over the past 200 years, RNLI volunteers in the Isle of Man have saved more than 1,700 lives, including the 34 lives saved by the, now closed, Castletown Lifeboat Station.
Vice President of the RNLI, Eddie Donaldson, echoed those sentiments, whilst also paying tribute to the brave men and women who have lost their lives saving others.
Government House said: “His Excellency was then presented with an RNLI Rose, by Mr Allen Corlett CP, Operations Manager of Peel Lifeboat.
“The rose is one of five, which represents the five lifeboat stations across the Island, and they will be planted in the Government House rose garden.”
