Regan Corrin added another three centimetres to his high jump personal best with a fantastic clearance of 2.08 metres on Wednesday (July 31).
Having run in the 200 metres, which he won, Regan needed a break before starting his high jump competition, so he jumped solo right at the end of the evening.
He cleared 1.90 and 1.95 metres first time, then needed two attempts to clear 2.00 metres.
He then went clear first-time at 2.05 metres to equal his pb which is the height he jumped at the recent European U18 Championships.
The Only Way is Up
The bar then went up to 2.08 metres – the height Regan narrowly failed at in Slovakia – and with his second jump he cleared it to not only set a new pb but also to go joint fifth on the European U18 rankings for 2024.
He then had three good attempts at 2.11 metres which, had he been successful, would have put him joint top of the European rankings (and the Russian athlete who is currently top achieved his performance indoors).
It was an incredible display by a fabulous athlete, which had some of the nearby hockey players absolutely spellbound – they couldn’t believe their eyes at the height of the bar!
It’s so special to be able to come down to a regular league meeting on the little Isle of Man, and to watch an athlete performing at such an elite level.
Regan is an exceptional athlete, and we are very lucky and very proud to call him one of our own!
