Firework Causes Marine Drive Blaze

Fire crews spent 90 minutes dealing with the aftermath of a firework on Marine Drive on Saturday evening.

Douglas crews were called to the road around 11pm after reports of a fire.

The Fire Service said: “On arrival crews found the grass was well alight and the incident commander quickly dispatched two firefighters in breathing apparatus to fight the fire with hose reels and a 45mm jet.

“Crews brought the fire under control and dampened the area to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

“This was a preventable fire caused by a firework that tied up Fire and Rescue Services for approximately an hour and a half.”
