Arbory and Rushen Parish Commissioners has announced the sudden passing of “dear friend and colleague” David Radcliffe.
A well known postman, Mr Radcliffe had served as a Commissioner since 2008, becoming a “highly valued and much-loved member of our team and a dedicated servant to the people of Rushen”.
The authority praised his “tireless commitment to his community and his passion for a sustainable future will be remembered as his lasting legacy”.
Leadership
It added: “He represented Rushen — and later Arbory and Rushen — on the Southern Sheltered Housing Joint Board and the Southern Swimming Pool Board.
“However, it is his local efforts that many will cherish most. His leadership on tree planting schemes, community litter picks, and the ongoing conversion of streetlights to more energy-efficient LEDs will continue to benefit our parish for years to come.
“A Ballafesson man born and raised, David had a deep love for his community. Together with his brother John, he made the Ballafesson playing field available to the residents at a peppercorn rent, and more recently, he played an important role in efforts to try and secure a future for Ballafesson Chapel and Hall.
“His efforts to preserve and enhance the local environment reflect his passion for ensuring that future generations can enjoy the natural beauty of our parish and in particular the many areas of trees that he planted with gusto including Ballakilley Park and Tom Dipper’s Forest.
“Above all, David was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife Gerry and their daughter Anna, his family was his greatest pride, and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

Chairman of the Board, Peter Gunn added: “David’s warmth, humility, and tireless commitment to the parish made him not just a valued Commissioner, but a friend to many.
“His dedication to the community will be remembered not only in his many achievements but in the lives he touched with his quiet kindness and steadfast commitment to making the parish a better place.
“The Commissioners extend their deepest sympathies to Gerry, Anna, and David’s extended family. His contributions to our community will never be forgotten, and his spirit will live on in the work we continue in his name.”
