No Screening Changes ‘at this point’

The Director of Public Health Isle of Man, Dr Matt Tyrer has said no recommendations have been made to change cancer screening intervals.

Publication of the Mandate to Manx Care, which made direct reference to reductions, have led to criticism and concerns over possible downgrades of the Manx system.

Dr Tyrer said: “I am aware of concerns about changes to breast cancer screening programmes emerging over the past few days.

“First, I want to make clear that Public Health has not recommended changes to breast screening at this point in time.

“A clinical review of all cancer screening programmes will take place over the next 12 months to ensure our services are underpinned by the best scientific evidence and advice.

“Public Health will engage with stakeholders and the public to provide assurance on any future recommended changes.”
