The Government has praised the community’s response to the war in Ukraine, confirming that 150 Ukrainians have been supported on the island since measures were introduced in May 2022.
Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said the island responded with “compassion and a willingness to help,” offering immigration pathways, accommodation through Homes for Ukraine, and access to work, education, healthcare and wider community support.
He thanked residents, charities and organisations who opened their homes and helped families rebuild their lives, adding that the integration of Ukrainian families “demonstrates the values of compassion and solidarity that define us.”
The Government has also donated £950,000 between 2021 and 2026 to international humanitarian funds.
With demand reducing, the Homes for Ukraine Scheme and the linked Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme close today.
Those already on the island remain eligible for the Ukraine Permission Extension Scheme, allowing them to stay for a further 18 months. Existing applications will continue under the rules in place when submitted.
Treasury Minister Chris Thomas MHK said more than £150,000 has been paid to hosts since 2022, recognising their generosity and support.
