‘Disturbing’ Absences in Mandate

Tim Glover has voiced strong concerns over the Manx Care mandate, urging a shift from “efficiency” to “effectiveness” to prioritise patient outcomes.

Speaking in Tynwald Mr Glover criticised the lack of decisive language in the mandate, particularly around autism and suicide prevention strategies, which he described as “disturbing.”

Mr Glover highlighted cases where patients were forced to seek private care off-island, citing one example costing £275.

“These things are happening out there,” he said.

Tinkering

Mr Glover also called for a full financial audit of Manx Care, stating, “No more tinkering or fiddling with processes.”

The air ambulance service, while secured for another year, was labelled a “plaster on a wound” rather than a long-term fix.

Mr Glover raised further issues with mental health services, noting, “Police are not the right people to assess individuals in a mental health crisis,” and criticised delays in resolving formal complaints.

“As soon as it goes formal, the wagon circles and the organisation goes into defensive mode,” he said.

Mr Glover also questioned the logic of reducing dedicated teams for an ageing population, asking, “How can the language in a mandated document be open to interpretation?”

He concluded by supporting a motion to refocus Manx Care, stating, “We must get our health service back to operating for the people of this island.”
