Education Minister Daphne Caine has asked for permission to swerve answering a question about the cost of external reviews of the island’s schools.
Mrs Caine has asked the President of Tynwald Laurence Skelly not to have to answer Lawrie Hooper’s question as it wouldn’t be in the public interest.
In his question, Mr Hooper asked what the total cost is of the validation undertaken by Etio of her department’s schools and education services.
However, the Clerk of Tynwald has said: “An application has been made to the President under Standing Order 3.10 to decline an answer as contrary to the public interest and this is being considered.”
Etio is contracted by DESC to compile three reports between October 2023 and July 2026.
However, the process has been criticised due to the department’s refusal to publish the reports in full, again citing the public interest.
