The Information Commissioner has signed memoranda of understandings with regulatory counterparts in Dubai and Malta.
The Commissioner is representing the island at the 47th annual Global Privacy Assembly in Seoul, South Korea.
Dr Delaney-Bhattacharya said: “These Memoranda of Understanding will enable closer collaboration with our regulatory counterparts in Dubai and Malta, fostering the exchange of up-to-date expertise in data protection and delivering long-term benefits for the Isle of Man and its people.”
“In 2025, data is a global business. Our economy benefits heavily from free data transfers to the UK and Europe without the need for additional safeguards or red tape.
“To maintain this status, the Isle of Man must continuously demonstrate that its data protection regime is of global standard.”
Collaboration
Dr Delaney-Bhattacharya added: “Data protection authorities worldwide are collaborating more closely than ever.
“At the Global Privacy Assembly, I am in discussions on privacy and AI and holding bilateral meetings to explore further collaboration.”
“It’s absolutely right that we should strive to have the Isle of Man on the global stage. The people and businesses of small islands like ours have the right to expect the same high standards of data protection as those in larger nations.”
