Burma Veteran Educates Children About War

James Fenton, a veteran of the Burma campaign has been educating the children of Onchan about the Second World War.

Mr Fenton, 103, who earlier this year met the King, visited Onchan Primary School, where he met with pupils currently learning about the war.

He spent over an hour with the children, answering their thoughtful and insightful questions with his visit providing a rare opportunity for the younger generation to learn firsthand about the realities of war and the sacrifices made by so many.

The Royal British Legion Onchan Branch said: “It is deeply important to James that the lessons of the past are never forgotten and that young people continue to understand the true cost of conflict.

“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from the Onchan schools each year, particularly around Remembrance. Their commitment ensures that the legacy of those who served lives on in the hearts and minds of future generations.

“Thank you to the teachers and pupils for inviting James, he was very impressed with the children’s knowledge.”
