MIU Closure Had “No Impact” on Weekend A&E

New data shows weekend attendances at Noble’s Hospital Accident and Emergency Department have risen since the weekend closure of Ramsey’s MIU in June 2024.

However, the Minister for Health and Social Care Claire Christian said that the increase is part of a broader trend.

The figures, provided in response to a question by Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper, show total weekend attendances at Noble’s AED grew from 7,752 in 2022 to 8,642 in 2024.

Attendances from residents in the north of the island also increased.

Attendances

Despite this rise, the proportion of weekend attendances by northern residents remained consistent, fluctuating between 13.51% and 15.12% annually since 2022.

Ms Christian said: “Whilst we can observe that the number of weekend attendances in Nobles’ AED have increased over the specified reporting period, so too have the overall number of attendances, with weekday attendances also showing an increase.

She added: “Through reviewing this data, it suggests that the closure of Ramsey Minor Injury and Illness Unit in June 2024 has had no impact on Nobles AED attendances at the weekend.”
