Manx Utilities has successfully finished two critical reservoir projects, enhancing dam safety and ensuring a reliable public water network.
The Cringle Reservoir spillway refurbishment replaces an 80-year-old structure and mitigates the risk of the spillway being undermined during extreme rainfall, safeguarding communities downstream along the Silverburn River.
Manx Utilities said: “The improvement therefore safeguards communities and properties along the Silverburn River as far as Castletown Harbour.”
At Clypse Reservoir, two essential valves have been replaced, with engineering works finished on time and on budget, refilling is now underway.
“The level will be raised gradually over a controlled period, with the process closely monitored by Manx Utilities’ Operations Team,” the MUA said.
Targeted bank maintenance is planned for early next year.
Both projects were conducted with oversight from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA). Fish will be reintroduced to Clypse once levels stabilise under DEFA Fisheries guidance.
