A fire at the Northern Civic Amenity Site prompted a swift response from fire crews this morning, leading to a temporary closure of the facility.
Two pumping appliances and the Chemical Incident Support Unit were dispatched after a blaze broke out in a burnable waste skip.
Ramsey crews quickly brought the fire under control, extinguishing it before carrying out full damping‑down operations with assistance from on‑site staff.
Both the Fire and Rescue Service and site management believe the fire was caused by marine flares that had been discarded in general burnable waste.
Amenity Site Fire
Staff at the amenity site evacuated the area immediately and contacted emergency services, who arrived promptly and contained the incident.
Cleanup operations are now underway. The site has advised that it will take some time to make the area safe for reopening, but they anticipate being able to welcome the public again by 10am.

In a statement, the Civic Amenity Site thanked Ramsey firefighters for their rapid response and support.
Authorities are using the incident as a reminder of the dangers posed by hazardous items such as flares and batteries when disposed of incorrectly.
Both can ignite easily if placed in general waste, and should always be taken to appropriate disposal points.
The site remains closed while staff complete safety checks and clear debris.
