The Department of Home Affairs’ Cyber Security Centre has partnered with Douglas‑based firm Riela to support the island’s construction industry.
The collaboration aims to help businesses strengthen their defences against emerging cyber risks.
A free briefing for construction businesses will take place on Wednesday, April 8 at The Copper Still, Banks Circus, Douglas, from 5.30pm.

Cyber Threats
Specialists from both organisations will outline the growing cyber threats facing the sector, including ransomware attacks, supply‑chain compromise, business email fraud and vulnerabilities linked to digital site‑management tools and connected equipment.
Michael Haywood, Director of the Cyber Security Centre, said the industry’s increasing reliance on digital systems brings both benefits and new risks.
He warned that construction firms are being targeted through compromised email accounts, manipulated invoices and procurement correspondence, with incidents capable of causing significant financial and operational disruption.
“Strengthening cyber resilience is no longer optional,” he said. “It is essential for maintaining business continuity, protecting clients and safeguarding the Island’s infrastructure.”
The session will provide practical guidance to help companies identify risks, improve cyber hygiene and reduce the likelihood of disruption.
