Sidecar Pot to be Split

An MHK says sidecar teams will receive some form of compensation after organisers cancelled the class’ scheduled races.

The decision to suspend all sidecar action was made after a crash involving Ryan and Callum Crowe.

Organisers said they made the change “in the interests of competitor and spectator safety and reflects the race organisation’s commitment to reviewing all aspects of event safety and operational delivery whenever an incident occurs”.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover, a former TT commentator, said he had reached out to the Department for Enterprise to ask what sort of compensation teams would be entitled to.

He later added that “minister [Tim Johnston] has confirmed sidecar prize pots will be split to all entrants”.

Manx.News understands teams have been told how much they will receive, with there being concern over the future of the class and the financial hit of travelling to the island but not racing.

Attempts by media organisations to ask further questions of the race organisation and event promotor have been met with refusals from the Department for Enterprise.
