Three Manx race walkers impressed on their England debuts at Sunday’s Madrid Marcha, a World Athletics Gold event in the Spanish capital.
Tim Perry and Holly Salter of Northern AC, along with Honey‑Mae Davies of Manx Harriers, were part of a five‑strong England squad competing in the U18 5km race.
All three handled intense heat and a high‑quality field well on their first outing at this level. Tim finished in 25:49, with Holly clocking 29:06 and Honey‑Mae 29:48.
Although outside their personal bests, the conditions were described as exceptionally challenging, and the Manx trio, all at the younger end of the age group, were praised for their composure and competitiveness.
Tim Perry said the experience was “a huge challenge” but one he will learn from, adding that racing in such hot and humid conditions was “not something I’m used to”. Honey‑Mae Davies said the event was “exciting” with a “fantastic atmosphere”.
A fourth Manx athlete, Erika Lockley, was also selected but withdrew before the event.
