The Southern 100 Club has confirmed that the Sidecar class will not run at the 2026 Southern 100.
It follows a detailed consultation and a week‑long technical review triggered by the Isle of Man TT’s decision to suspend the class for next year.
Officials examined whether safe, robust and enforceable rule changes could be introduced quickly for the Billown Course, but input from the ACU Compliance structure and leading competitors made clear that the aerodynamic and stability issues affecting modern prototype outfits cannot be resolved within the five‑week window before racing.
The Club said its priority is the safety of competitors, marshals, officials and spectators, adding that uncertainties around the stability of current sidecar designs under certain racing conditions meant running the class now would pose an unacceptable level of risk.
In a statement, the Club said it was “deeply saddened” to make the call, acknowledging that Sidecars have been a spectacular, defining part of the Friendly Races for decades.
However, the Club stressed this is a temporary pause, not a withdrawal. It will take part in the wider industry‑led review alongside TT organisers and technical experts, with the aim of returning the class to the Billown Course safely in 2027.
