Manx Care says Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital cannot deliver the modern, joined‑up model of care needed for the north of the island without significant investment or redevelopment, following a June workshop on the site’s future.
The board heard that RDCH could become a health and care hub providing more services closer to home, with teams working together on prevention, long‑term conditions and improved access to diagnostics and specialist services.
However, the current building is not capable of supporting this level of service.
Minor Injuries and Radiology reopened in May 2026, and short‑term recovery will continue using safe parts of the building and mobile units.
Planning is now shifting from restoring services to identifying a sustainable long‑term solution for the site.
An advisory committee has been established to bring together DHSC, Manx Care, Public Health, local representatives and other stakeholders to support future planning for health and social care in Ramsey and the north.
A further discussion is scheduled on the future model for rehabilitation and reablement bedded services.
