Regan Corrin delivered a standout moment of the morning long jump qualifiers, launching himself to 7.84m. It was an improvement on his previous personal best of 7.57m and more than enough to secure his place in tonight’s final. Automatic qualification was set at 8.00m, but Corrin’s jump comfortably put him through. While wind readings may influence whether the mark is officially recognised as a PB, the performance itself left no doubt: Corrin is in serious form.
The nineteen‑year‑old admitted his opener was scrappy, over‑committed and too aggressive. But his second attempt was everything he’d been chasing.
Corrin spoke to Manx.News: “First round was a bit dodgy. Just committed a bit too much, too aggressive. Second round was perfect. Exactly what I wanted to do. PB, through the final. That’s it.”
From Long Jump to High Jump
With Long Jump qualification secured for Wednesday, Corrin’s focus now shifts to resetting his mind and body ahead of the evening session where he will compete in the High Jump final. (7.10pm at Scotstoun Stadium)
“We’re just going to try and turn off, get away from the sport, go to sleep. I treat it like it’s a completely new day, wake up, and just get going.”
He’s already taken stock of the field and he’s relishing the challenge. “I’m enjoying it. I love competing with the best in the world. I want to show everyone that I’m one of them as well. I want to be the best in the world. So let’s just go out and show it now.”
Corrin heads into both tonight’s High Jump final and Wednesday’s Long Jump final with momentum, confidence and a jump that signals he’s ready to mix it with the elite. Whether the 7.84m Long Jump is ratified as a PB due to the wind factors or not, it stands as a clear warning to the rest of the field that he’s here to make an impact.
