Ray Harmer has confirmed he will stand as a candidate for Glenfaba and Peel in this year’s general election.
He says Glenfaba and Peel need “strong, practical, experienced representation” as the Isle of Man faces major decisions about its future.
Harmer said he wants to ensure the west of the Island is not overlooked and that local voices are “heard clearly in Tynwald.”
He outlined priorities including improving access to health and care, supporting young people, investing in infrastructure, strengthening transport links, protecting the environment, and ensuring public money is spent responsibly.
He also called for a more constructive approach to politics, saying people are “tired of arguments that go nowhere and promises that are not followed through.”
Harmer said he would work collaboratively, challenge poor decisions when needed, and focus on “practical results rather than political point‑scoring.”
Experience
Citing his experience as a commissioner, MHK, volunteer and long‑time resident, Harmer said progress comes from “preparation, negotiation, teamwork and persistence,” adding that issues such as housing, Peel regeneration, sewage treatment, harbour maintenance and support for local businesses require sustained pressure to deliver.
Harmer said he wants the island to make better use of its resources, protect communities, and give families and young people reasons to stay and thrive.
“Above all, I am standing to serve,” he said, pledging to work hard for Glenfaba and Peel if elected.
Katryna Baptist, Alex Perriam, James Hampton and Andrew Harris have also declared their intention to stand in the election.
Sitting MHK Tim Crookall has announced he will not contest the election, while Kate Lord Brennan is yet to declare her intention.
