Late September a ‘best case’ for Manxman’s Return

Manxman is now expected to return to service “by the end of September at best”, as engineers continue work on repairing the Steam Packet’s flagship vessel.

Steam Packet Managing Director Brian Thomson confirmed the issue does not involve the main shaft itself, but the surrounding components, which require full replacement.

He said the dry‑dock period has been extended because the vessel’s bespoke engineering means parts cannot simply be swapped out.

He described the timeline as “best endeavours”, adding that the ship will not return until the Steam Packet, flag authorities and its class society are satisfied with the repairs.

A firmer date will only be given once refurbished components are en route and the shipyard confirms its schedule.

Thomson said contingency options, including chartering a similar vessel, have been explored but no suitable replacement is currently available.
