Home Schooling Numbers Rise

The Education, Sport and Culture Minister has confirmed that 255 children are currently registered as home educated on the island’s Home or Private Education Register.

In a written Tynwald answer, Daphne Caine MHK said 62 of those registrations were made in the past 12 months, spanning the 2024/25 and 2025/26 academic years, either as new registrations or re‑registrations.

Of that group, 14 children had not previously attended a Department school. This includes children who were already home educated either on or off‑island, as well as those who had attended private schools.

However, the Department does not collect information on when a child arrived in the Isle of Man, meaning it cannot determine how many of the newly registered home‑educated children moved to the island within the past year.
