Two Dutch Spotted Texel ewes and two Scottish Blackface ewes were auctioned in memory of young farmer Harry Gilling at the Annual Ballaglonney Sheep Sale.
Donna Grant and Danny Creer led the tribute, with Donna’s Dutch Spotties selling twice, first bought cooperatively by local farmers for £2,300, then re‑auctioned for £1,500. Prize money from recent show wins will also be added to the total.
Donna said the support from the farming community had been overwhelming, describing the effort as “more than I could ever have imagined”.
Harry’s sister Lauren paid an emotional tribute, thanking Donna and Danny for organising the fundraiser. She said: “Today is such a beautiful way of keeping Harry’s memory alive, to see people come together, sell sheep in his name and raise money for such an important cause means so much to our family.”
She spoke about Harry’s passion for farming, his commitment to the industry and the impact of his loss, urging people to check in on loved ones and to seek help if they are struggling.
All proceeds will go to Isle Stand Up to Suicide, which offers crisis support.
