UPDATE: Police have issued an update after firefighters were called to a blaze near Ronaldsway Airport.
A spokesperson said: “All roads in and around Ronaldsway Isle of Man Airport have now reopened, including the A5 between Ballasalla and Castletown.
“Members of the public travelling to or from the airport may now access the site via the usual routes.”
At present the only remaining road closure is the access road to the industrial estate opposite the airport, while emergency crews safely complete their operations. This is expected to be lifted shortly.
Earlier police issued a warning to the public that the road next to the airport, the A5, has been closed temporarily while firefighters deal with “an established fire in the area of Castletown & Malew Fire & Ambulance station (site opposite the airport)”.
The constabulary media team put out a statement saying: “There is no direct fire risk to members of the public at this time and nobody is reported to have been injured as a result, however members of the public in the area are asked to stay indoors and where possible, close windows to avoid smoke inhalation.”
The public were asked to avoid the area and use the Castletown by-pass to avoid disruption and traffic build up.
Anyone travelling to the airport to catch or meet a flight was advised to contact the airport or their carrier directly to find out about potential disruption.
