Warning From Police: Watch Your Speed

The police are warning riders and drivers to watch their speed, particularly this fortnight.

During last year’s Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT, Isle of Man police officers dealt with 64 people for speeding.

At this year’s TT, in some of the worst incidents, officers stopped riders and drivers at 75mph in a 40mph zone, 65mph in a 30mph zone and 118mph in a 50mph.

An Isle of Man Constabulary spokerson said: “These speeds place you and others at serious risk and the consequences can be life-changing.

“We are asking riders and drivers to make the right choices this fortnight. Do not end your visit with points, a fine or a night in our custody.”

Weather risk

Riders and drivers should know what both they and their machine are capable of and wear the right protective clothing.

The Roads Policing Unit will be active in both marked and unmarked vehicles, police warn.

The spokesperson added: “With the weather likely to bring challenges, it is important that people do not contribute to further disruption. Ride and drive to the conditions and stay within your limits.

“Crashing and damaging infrastructure or spilling oil on the course has significant impacts on the running of racing and on the emergency and partner services who respond to incidents.”
