The Isle of Man Government has issued a statement following the death of King Harald V of Norway.
Flags have been flown at half-mast to acknowledge the Harald’s death.
The statement says: “As a nation with deep Norse roots, the Isle of Man recognises the special significance of the relationship between our communities.
“King Harald is remembered not only as a respected monarch, but also as a statesman whose life was dedicated to public service and to the welfare of his people.
“Our sincere condolences are extended to Her Majesty Queen Sonja, His Majesty King Haakon VIII, members of the Norwegian Royal Family and the people of Norway.”
In 2002 King Harald and Queen Sonja visited the Island as for the Tynwald Day celebrations.
During their visit, they opened the ‘Norway: The Sea Kingdom’ exhibition at the House of Manannan in Peel and unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the occasion.
