Sailings to Whitehaven?

Labour MP Josh MacAlister has launched a public survey to test demand for a proposed fast passenger boat route between Whitehaven and the Isle of Man.

Mr MacAlister, who represents Whitehaven and Workington, said a local operator with a 12‑seat vessel has expressed interest in running direct sailings from Whitehaven Harbour.

The service could be used for day trips, short breaks, and travel to major Manx events.

He said he wants to hear directly from local residents in Whitehaven before the idea is taken further, with the survey asking how likely people would be to use the route, what types of journeys would appeal, and what they consider a reasonable return fare.

Questions cover frequency of use, preferred travel days, journey types, price sensitivity, and factors such as journey time, reliability and online booking.

Respondents can also share additional views and opt in for updates if a trial service goes ahead.
