Two Isle of Man robotics teams have returned home after representing the island at a major European competition in Croatia.
Team Ellan Vannin and Team Mann Iron, from Isle of Man Code Club, travelled to Zagreb to compete in the WRO Open Championship Europe between earlier this month. The event brought together young robotics enthusiasts from across the world.
The teams competed in the Elementary and Senior categories, marking their first appearance at an international robotics competition.
Success at Regionals
Their journey to Croatia followed success at regional contests in Edinburgh and national finals in Leicester earlier this year, where Isle of Man teams secured qualification for international events.
The students have developed their skills through Isle of Man Code Club, learning coding, robotics, engineering and problem-solving.
Members of the Senior Team also designed and 3D-printed components for their robot and incorporated custom electronics into their competition entry.
Coach and mentor Steve Wilson praised the teams’ achievements, saying the experience would offer significant benefits by exposing competitors to the wider international robotics community and showcasing what young people can achieve through technology and STEM education.
The trip was made possible through sponsorship from Danucore, whose representatives travelled to Croatia to support the island’s competitors during the event.
Code Club Isle of Man said the achievement reflects the dedication of the young people, volunteer coaches, families and supporters who have helped grow the island’s robotics community and inspire future generations to pursue careers in technology and engineering.
