The full effects of Storm Boelo are starting to hit the Isle of Man, with reports of trees down and roads blocked.
A tree down between Glen Vine and Crosby forced the closure of a section of A1 a short time ago.
Earlier this evening (October 24) a tree had also come down on the Old Castletown Road.
There is a series of weather warnings in place, with likely coastal overtopping in a number of area, and flooding of some inner harbour areas.
The government has urged islanders to take precautions and plan ahead. It says:
• Allow more time for journeys
• Check that events are still going ahead and that businesses are open before setting off
• Check Bus Vannin‘s website and social media for service updates and use findmybus.im
• Check the latest information from the Steam Packet and Isle of Man Airport if travelling by sea or air
• Follow the Isle of Man Constabulary’s social media channels for details of road closures
• Secure loose items in gardens and outdoor areas
• If safe to do so, check and clear drains near your property, as fallen leaves may increase the risk of localised flooding.
Severe Gales and Flooding
Severe gales are expected to last until 3pm tomorrow (October 25), with gusts of 60mph-70mph across the island, potentially reaching 80mph in places.
High tides at 11pm tonight and 10.30am tomorrow, could see “significant amounts of seawater and debris onto exposed coastal roads and promenades”. Fenella Beach in Peel, the Castletown end of Shore Road in Rushen and Castletown Promenade are particularly at risk.
Those times will see risks of inner harbour flooding in Ramsey, the Tongue area of Douglas harbour and the lowest lying parts of Castletown Harbour.
