Alan Greenhalgh has claimed his second European Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu medal in six months after securing bronze at the European No-Gi Championships in Lisbon.
Representing Summit Grappling Academy, the 14-year-old Manx athlete competed in the Teen 2 Yellow Belt Under-67kg division, defeating a Gracie Barra opponent in the quarter-finals by rear-naked choke submission before narrowly losing 5-2 on points to the reigning Brazilian No-Gi champion in the semi-finals.
The result follows his silver medal at the IBJJF European Kids Gi Championships in Dublin in April.
SGA Head Coach Conrad Roberts said: “To win two European medals in different disciplines at just 14 years old is an exceptional achievement.
“Alan’s quarter-final performance was dominant, and to push the reigning Brazilian champion so closely demonstrates the standard he’s reached.
“These are among the most prestigious competitions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, attracting talented athletes from across the world. We’re incredibly proud of Alan. His dedication and performances show what young Manx athletes can achieve internationally.”
The latest success adds to Summit Grappling Academy’s record at major British and European championships.
