11 Evacuated From House Fire

Eleven occupants were safely evacuated from a house fire in Cronk-y-Berry in the early hours of this morning.

The people inside were alerted by smoke alarms.

Fire crews from Douglas Station and the Duty Officer responded shortly after 2am.

On arrival, they were informed of a ground-floor fire and two teams wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to tackle the blaze and search smoke-logged upper floors.

The Fire Service said: “Luckily the occupants were woken by working smoke detectors enabling all of them to escape the smoke-logged property.

“Several individuals received treatment from the Isle of Man Ambulance Service and were taken to Noble’s Hospital for precautionary checks due to smoke inhalation.

“This incident highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms and proves how effective closed doors can be at preventing smoke and fire spread within a structure.

“This family is alive today due to working smoke alarms.”

An electrical fault is suspected, and the cause remains under investigation. The fire service urged residents to follow electrical safety advice, including avoiding overloaded sockets, checking cables for wear, and unplugging unused appliances.
