Census officers have begun visiting homes that still haven’t submitted a return, after thousands of addresses remain outstanding following multiple reminder letters.
The Cabinet Office says the figures relate to letters sent to addresses, not physical census forms, and that outstanding totals include vacant, derelict or non‑residential properties as well as outdated addresses.
Douglas East has the highest number of outstanding addresses at 1,115, followed by Ramsey (668) and Douglas Central (693).
Arbory, Castletown and Malew received 4,484 letters, with 561 addresses still outstanding. Rushen has 437 outstanding from 4,033 letters, while Ayre and Michael has the lowest number at 287.
Since July 1, households that have not submitted a census return have been issued a third reminder letter advising that completion is a legal requirement and that census officers would begin visiting properties. Those visits are now underway.
So far, £4,218 has been spent on the Post Office business‑reply service for returned forms and £4,318 on printing. Once officer visits are complete, a final reminder will be sent to remaining non‑responding households by recorded delivery.
