Three Manx athletes break IOM records

They say things happen in threes – and Carla Teece has become the third Manx athlete to break an Isle of Man (IOM) record this weekend.

Carla’s came in the indoor 60 metres in the Junior Women’s category, when she ran a time of 8.02 seconds at Sportcity in Manchester at the weekend.

This was narrowly inside her own age group record set in Sheffield last year, and an improvement on the 8.06 seconds she clocked in Sheffield a fortnight ago.

With Meghan Pilley also in great recent form it looks like the friendly rivalry between these two – and others – will lead to a very exciting summer season on the track in 2024.

Astin smashes IOM Half Marathon record

Sarah Astin has clocked a time of 1:11:40 this morning in her first serious attempt at a Half Marathon in Seville, Spain.

The IOM women’s record has stood to Brenda Walker for more than 32 years, but Sarah has beaten it by two minutes and 49 seconds on Sunday (January 28).

That was despite feeling so unwell yesterday after suffering a heavy cold in the past week that she was far from certain whether she would even run today.

Another Mullarkey stunner

Isle of Man Commonwealth Games athlete David Mullarkey achieved yet another stunning performance in the colours of Florida State University (FSU), clocking an indoor 3,000 metres time of 7:42.89.

That is more than 10 seconds faster than the personal best time he posted two weeks ago, and if I understand correctly from the College Instagram post it is a new FSU record.

It places him second on the UK rankings list so far for 2024, four seconds behind Jack Rowe who won the race.
