‘Healthy early take-up’ for 2024 End-to-End

Entries for the 2024 MFX End-to-End Walk are already three times the number reached at the same stage last year, say race organisers.

Last year’s event, the first under new sponsors MFX, attracted nearly 300 entries; Many were new participants in what is regarded as one of the Island’s premier competitive walks.

This year’s race takes place on Sunday, September 15.

End to End walk

First staged over 60 years ago, the race is contested over an undulating 39.22- mile course, starting at the Point of Ayre and finishing at The Sound.

Race Secretary, Tony Mackintosh, said he was encouraged by the healthy early take-up for the 2024 event.

“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but it’s great to see so many walkers on Island and from across that are keen to tackle the End-to-End. If we can exceed last year’s sizeable turnout that would be a great target to reach.”

Categories

The End-to-End is open to individuals, as well as teams of three (men’s, ladies and mixed categories).

The race is broken down into age-groups – from under 20’s through to over 70’s.

Race organisers, Isle of Man Veterans Athletics, are keen to boost the number of entrants this year for the under 20’s race.

Their race finishes at Peel – a distance of 22.16 miles – rather than the full-length distance to The Sound.

“In 2023, we had a healthy entry list for the Under 20’s race but we’d love to see more younger walkers taking part this year,” said Tony.

To be eligible for the under 20’s event, walkers need to be over 17 but under 20 on the day of the race.

Competitors have 10 hours 30 minutes to complete the full course.

Starting at 8am, walkers must reach certain cut-off times to the Cronk, Peel and Dalby, to keep them inside the allotted 6:30pm completion time.

Registration

The registration fee for the 2024 MFX End-to-End is £30 for all entries received between April 1 and August 1.

After that date, it increases to £35. Closing date for entries is September 1.
