Jurby Parish Commissioners’ meeting to discuss plans for Jubry Airfield will go ahead as planned.
The government performed a u-turn on Friday by pulling its proposal to zone land around the airfield in the area plan for the north and west.
It had been proposed that the airfield could be expanded to one-day replace Ronaldsway as the island’s main airport, leaving fearful their houses could be demolished or become impossible to sell.
However, after much public opposition, the government bowed to pressure and shelved the proposal, for now.
The meeting is being held at 7pm at Jurby Parish Hall.
Due Process
Reacting the news, JPC has issued a statement which says the board is “committed to making sure due process is followed and that the DOI’s promise for public consultation will begin in Autumn with regards to the inclusion in to an Airport Master Plan”.
It added: “To enable JPC and the residents of Jurby to consider these potential future changes we have decided to continue with the meeting on Monday 12th August and with speakers. This should enable considered discussion once the Airport Master Plan is out for consultation.
“As soon as dates are announced for the Airport Master Plan consultation JPC will publicise.”
