The Fynoderee Distillery has launched pre-orders for its Refuge Manx Rum that has spent the last 12 months barrel ageing inside the Tower of Refuge.
It is hoped that the limited edition spirit will generate funds for the RNLI in its 200th anniversary year and shine a light on the Manx origins of the charity.
Taking its name from the Island’s iconic Tower of Refuge on Conister Rock, built by Sir William Hillary, founder of the RNLI, the rum is approaching the end of a year-long maturing process.
It has been caged within the confines of the Tower in oak bourbon casks where it has absorbed the mineral rich salinity of the sea air.
Refuge Rum
Fynoderee Distillery Co-founder, Tiffany Kerruish said: “The team are very excited that Isle of Man residents can now pre-order Refuge Manx Rum.
“The 11 barrels containing the special spirit are currently behind locked bars in the Tower of Refuge but will shortly be ‘released’ to come ashore.
“From there the rum will be put into bottles featuring another beautiful illustration by local artist Julia Ashby-Smyth, who designs all of our labels.
“We have been delighted with the numbers of orders placed since we launched a few days ago, which suggests that Refuge Manx Rum will be another much sought after ‘Fyn’ product.”
Funds Towards RNLI
There are only 2,500 bottles available of the rum, and Fynoderee wanted to give locals the best chance of securing a bottle at the earliest opportunity.
For every bottle of Refuge Manx Rum sold, 20% of the purchase price will be donated to the RNLI.
The company has already raised over £10,000 for the RNLI from the sales of Fynoderee Manx Dry Gin – RNLI Edition.
