Motorbike riders can participate in events at Jurby Airfield without a ‘bike licence’ as long as they have an ACU licence.
ACU licences can be obtained via Andreas Racing Association – the island’s only ACU-accredited motorcycle and sidecar racing club.
It operates at Jurby and provides the only pathway on island to obtain a licence, which is essential for racing or participating in ACU test days.
Race School at Jurby
Andreas Racing Association’s Race School consists of two key components:
- Classroom Training – Held the week prior to each race weekend, this mandatory session covers the theory required to gain your ACU licence to race with ARA or any ACU-affiliated club in the UK.
- On-Track Assessment – Conducted during ARA Test Days at Jurby, this includes two on-track sessions and a practice race start. Throughout the day, expert instructors provide one-on-one support and guidance from the ARA Race School Office.
ARA’s team of expert instructors includes:
- Gary Radcliffe – Manx Grand Prix and Southern 100 winner, and top TT competitor of the 1980s and 1990s
- Carolynn Sells – Winner at the Manx Grand Prix, Southern 100, and Jurby Road. Carolynn is the only woman to have won on the Mountain Circuit, Billown Course, and Jurby Road
- Johnny Heginbotham – Manx Grand Prix winner and current TT Travelling Marshal (#7)

Cars at Jurby
Andreas Racing Association told Manx.News: “There are several car clubs, including Druidale most recently, that regularly hold events on the airfield.
“We also facilitate car track days and have a number of private ones scheduled in the near future.
“While our primary focus as a racing club—established at Andreas Airfield in the early 1970s—has always been the promotion of competitive motorcycle racing, we do have both the appetite and the capability to host car events as well.
“We’re actively working with a range of car clubs to support and develop a variety of four-wheel motorsport events.
“Our recent assistance with Druidale’s Targa rally is a good example, and we’re pleased to confirm that we have the necessary support from a number of governing bodies to run such events.”
