The Mountain Road will remain closed overnight, the DoI has confirmed.
It had been closed to allowed for resurfacing after a bitumen spill by a contractor.
Having closed last night, the road was due to be open this evening,
However, the DoI said that its asphalt manufacturing plant suffered a breakdown this morning.
It added: “Although production has now resumed, it is at a slower rate than normal. The delay in getting material to site has had a knock on effect on laying operations.
“The team will continue laying the new surface into the evening, at which point it will be re-lined, There needs to then be a period of time to allow the new surface to cool and harden before it is trafficked.
“This section of road will remain closed overnight. The team will return to site before 8am tomorrow morning to re-open the road.”
