Parking Overhaul Planned

The DoI is considering updates to how it allocates parking permits, zone sizes, and provisions for visitors, businesses, doctors, and healthcare workers.

Minister Dr Michelle Haywood was quizzed on the changes by MHK Chris Thomas.

Dr Haywood said: “Any proposed changes to the operation or extent of disc parking zones are subject to a structured and transparent process, designed to ensure that decisions are informed, equitable, and aligned with the wider strategic objectives of the authority.”

The review will examine parking demand against the “Island Plan, Transport Strategy, and Island Strategy,” and include a public consultation playing a key role.

Significant changes would require a Traffic Regulation Order, including a “statutory notice period” for objections.

Dr Haywood said: “The department’s goal is to modernise our approach to parking in a way that supports residents, key services, and the wider goals of our transport and Island plans.”

A public consultation is expected to begin in July 2025.
