The Summerland site has been earmarked for the temporary storage location for components of the planned windfarm at Earystane.
The decision follows a Swept Path Analysis (SPA) confirming the site’s suitability for delivering turbine blades via flatbed transporter.
In document released, Manx Utilities said: “Our current plan for the delivery of components, using the Port of Douglas, involves temporary storage at the Summerland site.
“The SPA has confirmed that this site is suitable and that turbine blades can be delivered to this site.”
A blade-lifter will later transport components to Earystane.
Trees
The controversial project, targeting 20MW of renewable energy by 2026, has faced logistical challenges, including tree management along transport routes.
The Department of Infrastructure is said to ave agreed that trees along the route to Earystane will be limbed to accommodate buses as part of routine maintenance up to a corridor of 36m², with additional pruning to ensure natural growth.
Meanwhile, ecological surveys at Earystane have prompted mitigation plans, including habitat restoration. “The mitigation shows there are opportunities to enhance biodiversity in tandem with the development,” officials said.
The planning application is expected later this year, with construction planned for 2026.
