Last Night of the Proms Returns

A night of party pieces, balloons and patriotic flag waving is guaranteed when the annual Manx Last Night of the Proms returns to the Gaiety Theatre next Saturday.

Hosted by Manx Concert Brass, it promises a programme packed with favourites – from the timeless works of Elgar, Parry and Strauss to popular show tunes by Queen and Rodgers and Hammerstein – ensuring something for every musical taste.

Last year’s Cleveland Medal winner Neil Taverner is this year’s guest soloist and the popular actor and singer will perform both solo and alongside the band, showcasing a fun-filled celebration from 7:30pm.

Night of the Proms

Manx Concert Brass chairman Stephen Maddocks said: “The Last Night of the Proms is always a special occasion and we are delighted that Neil has agreed to join us.

“He’s a talented and popular local performer and we’re looking forward to an evening full of energy, great music and, of course, all the crowd-pleasing favourites which audiences love.”

Under the baton of musical director Ian Clague, pomp and pageantry is guaranteed with rousing renditions of classics such as Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, Land of Hope and Glory, Johan Strauss’ Radetsky March, Hubert Parry’s Jerusalem – a piece considered England’s unofficial national anthem – and the ever popular Fantasia on British Sea-Songs.

As tradition dictates, the evening welcomes both serious music lovers and those simply looking for a reason to dress up, wave a flag and join in the fun.

Tickets, priced £20 (adults), £17.50 (concessions), £5.00 (under 16s) are available from the Welcome Centre, the Villa Marina, the box office on 600555 or villagaiety.com
