Two people who do not meet the residential condition for benefits have received income-based jobseeker’s allowance in recent months.
Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson confirmed the payments following a question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.
Answering the question, Dr Allinson stated the awards were made after adjudication officers decided it would be “exceptionally harsh or oppressive to deny them benefit”.
The total value of payments made to them between May 28 and September 3 was £1,397.63. No further awards of income support or employed person’s allowance were made to non-residents in that period.
Leaving
Regarding assistance to leave the Island, Dr Allinson confirmed it is only available to individuals who do not meet the residency requirement, have been denied benefit, are willing to leave and have asked for help.
Between September 1 2022 and August 31 2025, four people have received such assistance – all returning to the UK by ferry – at a total cost of £246.30.
