A chef who suffered unlawful deductions from his wages has been awarded more than £6,000 by an employment tribunal.
Clive Moyo was employed as a chef at Villa Fusion, owned by Blue Nile Enterprise Limited, from April 2024 until September 2024.
He commenced proceedings on October 30 2024 seeking redress for unlawful deductions from pay, failure to provide payslips and failure to provide terms and conditions of employment.
The respondent entered a response denying liability but did not attend the hearing.
Sadly a director for the respondent, Douglas Gardner, died in July 2025 and his co-director appointed Adrian Christian to manage all the affairs of the restaurant.
Mr Christian wrote to the tribunal confirming that the hearing should go ahead but that there would be no attendance.
In its decision, the Tribunal stated: “Mr Moyo suffered unlawful deductions from his wages and was not provided with his payslips or terms and conditions of his employment.”
The tribunal chair Douglas Stewart also made a declaration confirming lack of payslips, awarding two weeks’ pay, and said: “I declare that, Mr Moyo had to leave his employment and thus he is entitled, on a just and equitable basis, to three weeks’ wages.”
In doing so, the tribunal awarded him £6365.23.
