The future of the Welbeck Hotel, Bar & Restaurant appears to have been secured after owner Michael George announced the sale of the long-running family business.
The announcement comes after concerns that the hotel could close, but George says it is now “extremely likely” the business will remain open and continue trading.
In a social media post, he revealed the buyer is an international entrepreneur who shares the family’s belief in both the Isle of Man and its hospitality industry.
While contracts are still being finalised, the purchaser has reportedly indicated the acquisition could be the first stage of significant investment in the island.
The Welbeck has been a family-run business for 48 years and is a well-known fixture in Douglas’s hospitality sector.
George said all current bookings will be honoured and urged customers to remain patient while the remaining formalities are completed.
For now, he says, it remains “business as usual”, with further details expected to be announced in the near future.
