How Defib Map is Maintained

The Ambulance Service has detailed its process for maintaining the island’s defibrillator map at www.defibs.im.

The website is maintainedto provide location information on defibrillators across the Isle of Man.

When a new community defibrillator is purchased, the guardian for that defibrillator is asked to register it online.

Upon registration, the guardian must sign a Memorandum of Understanding which outlines the responsibilities of the guardian around the maintenance of the device.

Guardian

The www.defibs.im database will send out an automated reminder email to the registered primary and secondary guardian 90 days prior to the expiry date of the battery or defibrillator pads.

When the battery or pads are replaced by the guardian, they are requested to email defibs@gov.im to inform the Ambulance Service team and to advise the new expiration date so the database can be updated.

If no email confirming replacement is received by the date of expiry, the defibrillator is removed from the www.defibs.im map as the device is not safe for use.

Once an email from the guardian is received confirming replacement of the battery or pads, the defibrillator will be reactivated on the map.
