The government cannot regulate or set fee levels for privately operated care homes, the Minister for Health and Social Care has confirmed.
The Minister confirmed the status following a question from Glenfaba & Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan.
Answering a Tynwald question, Claire Christian said fee levels are “determined independently by the provider.”
“In relation to facilities provided by Manx Care or its commissioned service providers, the levels of fees are set by regulations made by my department,” she said.
“From April 7 the weekly costs for residential social care services increased by 2.2% to £599.13 for ‘standard’ residential care homes and £835.24 for homes providing dementia care.”
The minister added that “there are a small number of residential care homes that operate a mixed funding model that accommodates both private self-funders and individuals supported through Income Support”.
