The Multi-Agency Response to Storm Amy

The DoI’s Highway Services team has outlined the scale of the response to Storm Amy, which included assisting with a tree which hit a car.

A spokesperson said the team was kept fully informed of the anticipated weather patterns, allowing for advanced planning.

The department’s control room was placed on a 24-hour footing to coordinate the effort.

In a 24-hour period from Friday afternoon, teams responded to 59 reports of fallen trees and 18 flooding incidents.

Blocked

The north of the island was said to be particularly affected, with DEFA providing support. Several roads were blocked, including at Whitebridge in Onchan where a tree partially fell onto a car.

Clean-up operations continued throughout the week with two roads remaining closed for repairs: Glen Mooar Road in Malew due to a landslide and part of Church Hill in Laxey following a partial wall collapse.
