Govt’s Business Support Questioned

A southern MHK will be questioning what support is available support for Manx businesses.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse is also curious as to what is being done to encourage residents to shop local.

Mr Moorhouse will ask the Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston MHK what plans there are to adapt business support packages in response to increased costs.

Support For Businesses

Last month, the Treasury Minister Alex Allison pointed struggling businesses in the direction of Enterprise.

Following the decision to increase the minimum wage nearly 10%, the Enterprise Minister said: “‘The Department for Enterprise offers a range of support through the Enterprise Support Schemes and is also building on wider concerted efforts to increase footfall and demand, through a range of initiatives set out in the local Economy Strategy.”

Mr Moorhouse will also ask the Enterprise Minster, “what his Department’s budget in the next six months will be to encourage island residents to buy Manx”.

The Enterprise Minister will answer Mr Moorhouse’s question in the House of Keys on Tuesday (November 4).
