The DoI is insisting that Stoney Mountain quarry won’t be closing despite a sign saying it will be closing for the foreseeable.
A sign at the quarry states that from Monday (November 3) it will be closed until further notice.
However, the DoI are citing this as “an operational change”.
The DoI told Manx.News: “The primary result of this change is the temporary scale-back of all operations at Stoney Mountain and the redeployment of site personnel to the Poortown Quarry.”
Closure of Regular Operations
The DoI added that whilst this is a “major shift and will result in the site’s closure for regular operations, we will continue to undertake limited activities to meet customer requirements”.
The quarry will open periodically to facilitate specific tasks, including:
- Receipt of materials for recycling;
- Facilitation of sales for government and private projects;
- Crushing and screening campaigns to replenish aggregate and recycled stockpiles.
Changes
The Department added: “These changes will require enhanced communication and coordination, particularly regarding aggregate needs and pickup timelines. Customers’ cooperation and proactive engagement will be essential to maximise available man-hours and maintain operational efficiency.
“While some initial challenges are expected as we transition, through effective communication and teamwork, we can ensure a smooth adjustment and the continued reliable supply of aggregates. It is hoped that ongoing recruitment will enable normal operations to resume as soon as possible.”
